Almost Like Praying
Rather than frame Lin-Manuel Miranda’s new song meant to raise money for hurricane relief as some sort of anti-Trump theme, why can’t you discuss it without offensive political references?
Lin-Manuel Miranda can certainly afford to help Puerto Rico with a net worth of $10 million dollars and an annual income of more than $5.2 million from the Broadway show alone. From the New York Times in June of 2016:
“To date, Hamilton has grossed over $85 million, and a sizable portion of that goes directly to the show’s creator and star, Miranda. While his total salary is still undisclosed to the public, Miranda reportedly earned a 7% cut of the weekly box office revenue, which, when tallied up, equates to roughly $100,000 a week.”
He is part of the top 1% of the top 1%. His efforts to raise more money for Puerto Rico is praiseworthy and a generous donation of his own incredible wealth would also be helpful. Talk about income inequality!
But setting it all up as a hate-Trump message is just mean-spirited and offensive. Leave politics out of your blog posts. You don’t know politics, you don’t understand politics, and your subscribers do not sign up to receive political rants from a left wing music blogger. Just stop it!
