The UnitedHealthcare Shooting
Bob Lefsetz’s Original Post – The UnitedHealthcare Shooting
Back to the old Bob Lefsetz, eh?
“And we thought the revolution would arrive as a result of the red/blue divide. When in truth, it’s all about income inequality.”
“Please don’t criticize me for having sympathy for those screwed by the insurance companies. If I were in charge, there’d be no guns at all, or a law akin to that in Australia.”
So that’s your standard, Bobby? Here’s what the United States Justice Department has to say about that:
In Australia, to legally possess a handgun, the owner must be licensed, and the gun must be registered; the owner must be a member of a recognized gun club, and the gun may be transported only between home, range, and the gunsmith’s shop. Police estimate compliance with the handgun registration laws at approximately 85 percent. These same restrictions do not uniformly apply to rifles and shotguns, and long guns are plentiful. The number of firearms in private hands in Australia has increased from 2.7 to 3.5 million in 10 years.
There is no indication from the data that gun licensing, gun registration, and gun prohibition have had any success in reducing crime in either Australia or the United States.
Australian Gun Control Measures Are Ineffective
“But one would posit that the shooter is pissed because the insurance company didn’t pay.”
“But that’s what insurance companies do, not pay. That’s their business model.”
That’s what insurance companies do – you pay a premium and hope you won’t need to use it, while the costs for healthcare are amortized amongst a large pool of consumers. You MUST have auto insurance to drive a car. Your rates go up if you speed, drink while driving, or have several accidents. And you pay deductibles, depending on your chosen policy. What is it about “insurance” that you don’t understand?
“Which is why the rich live longer than the poor. It’s very simple, health care.”
“In the rest of the western world, health care is a right. Everybody gets it. We should have that in the U.S. too, but everybody is fearful of losing something they’ve already got and paying for the indigent so there can be no change.”
The State of Universal Health Coverage in the World
In 2024, 73 of the 195 countries worldwide had UHC, resulting in around 69% of the world’s population having some form of universal healthcare.
And India has rich and poor people AND Universal Health Care:
In 2022, the majority of Indian adults had a wealth of 10,000 U.S. dollars or less. On the other hand, about 0.1 percent were worth more than one million dollars that year.
And what’s the lifespan in India compared to the United States? In India, it’s 67.7 years – in the U.S. 77.43 years. Where would YOU prefer to live if not on the Left Coast of California?
“But Obamacare? People love it, it’s never going away, just like Social Security. Neither is going to be clawed back.”
Oh yeah, Obamacare has been a HUGE success. Have you received YOUR annual savings of $2,500 per year that Obama promised yet? Neither have I…
Obamacare has increased the cost of health care and health insurance. The ACA’s federal mandates and spending, including Medicaid expansion and subsidized individual plans, have drastically increased the cost of health care and health insurance.
On a per person basis, Obamacare is far more expensive than anticipated for taxpayers. Employer-sponsored insurance provides better coverage and a better bargain for taxpayers compared to government-run health care programs.
Obamacare’s “expansion” is due in large part to improper Medicaid enrollments.
“I have no sympathy for the individualist who rails about taxes. We live in a society, we all use the roads, the police and fire departments, there have to be taxes.”
Of course, you don’t care about taxes because you’ve got a few million stashed away and can afford to go to Hollywood specialists who are “folksy, talks music” and provides you with superstar medical care. And who pays most of the taxes in the U.S.?
CBS News has reported:
“Altogether, the top 50 percent of filers earned 90 percent of all income and were responsible for 98 percent of all income taxes paid in 2021. The other half of earners, those with incomes below $46,637, collectively paid 2.3 percent of all income taxes in 2021.”
But it’s not just the “individualist” who rails about taxes. Of course, “there have to be taxes” – nobody has ever said otherwise. But when 50% of all income tax filers pay only 2.3% of all income taxes, those who DO pay 98% of all income taxes have a right to “rail about taxes”. It’s a progressive tax system and it works.
“Let’s be clear, Trump didn’t win because everybody’s ignorant or racist. They just weren’t happy with the way things are.”
PLEASE be clear, because you rarely are. But you are right about that. In spite of what Rachel Maddow, Morning Joe, Kamala Harris and other left wing loonies kept saying, Trump is not racist nor is he “Hitler” or an “existential threat to democracy” and those who voted him are neither ignorant or racist, nor are they “garbage”, as Joe Biden exclaimed.
“And one of the things people are unhappy with is health insurance, especially when they see the gargantuan profits and paydays. I mean should people be making money based on denying me service?”
You apparently are not familiar with the capitalist system we all live under in these United States. Nobody makes money as a result of denying you service. They make money by keeping a business profitable and successful. Not everyone is rich enough to afford the type of concierge healthcare services you demand. Nor can our country afford to provide Hollywood doctors and facilities available to you and other left coast celebrities.
“The red people hate the blue, much more than the blue hate the red.”
OMG, get over it. Even a casual viewer of cable news pontificators, network news anchors, late night comedians, “Morning Joe”, The View, readers of the New York Times and Washington Post, Internet political bloggers and podcasters such as yourself, could see the lies, misinformation, fake news, slander, defamation, seething anger and hate against Trump and the “deplorables” who voted for him. Open your eyes, Bob!
“Now the truth is the blue people may ultimately revolt, if democracy truly hangs in the balance. I’d understand that. But, the rich are above the law. Like Elon Musk. The FTC says Twitter must comply with the consent decree and Musk just doesn’t do it. The government is no match for the rich. Never mind money can insulate you from so much.”
“Democracy hangs in the balance”? Seriously? Do you hear yourself? You just told us that:
“Trump didn’t win because everybody’s ignorant or racist. They just weren’t happy with the way things are.”
“And try standing up to the man… Their lawyer will bury you in paper.”
Or President Biden will offer you a full pardon for anything and everything his son Hunter did or might have done over a ten year period, after promising a dozen times he would NOT do just that. And all of you blue folks were incensed that Donald Trump might not go to jail, because “No one is above the law”.
“And Joe pardoning Hunter…”
“And the Supreme Court is biased and…”
And it always has been and always will be. You just don’t like that fact now because, for the first time in a long time, the Supreme Court leans to the right and might refer back to the original intent of our Constitution rather than making up Constitutional rights where none really exist, as in Roe v. Wade.
“Who is going to stand up against the man for you? NO ONE!”
Donald J. Trump easily won a second term because the majority of the American people believed that HE would “stand up against the man”. Joe Biden could barely stand up by himself without falling over.
“Things cannot continue on the same path, at some point people just won’t put up with it.”
And that is precisely why Trump kicked Kamala Harris to the curb – the American people just won’t put up with the open borders, high inflation and prices, and DEI and woke politics that led Harris to support transgender surgeries for convicted prisoners at taxpayer expense.
“I don’t know what drove the shooter to do it. But when I saw the headline this morning, the first thing I thought about was our broken health care system and the overcompensation of the people who run it. They’re getting rich on our illnesses. They take our money and don’t pay.”
So you confess you do not know why the shooter did it. But you use the incident to target our healthcare system and attack the people who run it…
Ain’t that Bob Lefsetz’s America!
