Fallon Loses A Night
Bob Lefsetz’s Original Post – “Fallon Loses A Night“
“Is this more about content or format?
There is no appointment viewing, everything is on demand.
And edge sells.”
Actually, it is BOTH! The format is important and the content is critical.
“Fallon loses on both counts, content and format. He’s a man out of date. And no one will put us out of our collective misery. The problem isn’t that he’s still on TV, but the fact that we have to read about him, when he’s irrelevant.
Talk to Kimmel and he’ll tell you that late night shows are all about creating content for online.
And what sells online? Credibility, honesty, irreverence, novelty, the aforementioned edge.“
But don’t “talk to Kimmel” – he’s holding down third place with around 700,000 FEWER viewers than Greg Gutfeld on the conservative FOX Network late night talk show “Gutfeld!”.

“As for the power of late night TV… That ship sailed long ago.
So what have we got?
A brief, flaky monologue and lame celebrity interviews.“
Greg Gutfeld presents a nightly monologue that is cutting, irreverent, barbed, laced with inappropriate references, images and videos which mock both celebrities and politicians over what they look like and what they say. No lame celebrity interviews, but four guest panelists are featured each night which usually include black NWA former Worlds Heavyweight Champion known as “Tyrus”, comedian and Libertarian Kat Timpf, comedians such as Dennis Miller, Jamie Lissow, Rosanne Barr, and Dana Carvey, along with business and political commentators that often include the likes of Bill Maher, Don Lemon, Dr. Drew, Kevin “Mr. Wonderful” O’Leary, and even Caitlyn Jenner.
“Only monologues with edge work. Which is why Jon Stewart is triumphant. He’s lost not a step, in talent and consumption. As soon as the show plays on Monday night, there are posts all over social media. What Stewart says is important. Because Stewart doesn’t get down into the pit with these people, he laughs at them. He can see the underside. He’s saying what we all feel, not broad tropes.“
And we agree, Bobby! I like and respect Jon Stewart, as well, for those very reasons – Stewart has still got it and it’s great to see him and “The Daily Show” back on the air But what he HASN’T got is ratings…
‘Gutfeld!’ dominates ‘The Daily Show’ with four times the viewers
Leading all late-night talk shows, Gutfeld! averaged 2.1 million overall viewers. It also drew an average of 295,000 viewers in the 25-54 age demographic, which topped all cable news programs. Gutfeld!’s second-quarter viewership quadrupled that of The Daily Show’s 500,000 total viewers and more than doubled its 146,000 in the key 25-54 age demographic. Jon Stewart recently returned to host The Daily Show part-time amid a cast of rotating hosts.
And yet – even though as a savvy media expert you must be aware of these facts – you tout Jon Stewart over all others. Media bias, perhaps?
“And the aforementioned Kimmel stopped worrying about pissing people off and spoke his truth also. Today appealing to everybody is a fool’s errand. No one can reach everybody, because everybody is too different, you go for a niche and grow it.”
True of Greg Gutfeld, as well. And yet Kimmel lags FAR behind Gutfeld in the ratings, and even his nightly Trump Derangement Symptom rants and political monologues throughout the last few years have left him in third place behind soulmate Stephen Colbert.
“You can’t be afraid of offending people and you can’t worry about being canceled.”
Once again, we agree completely! But you must also be funny and you must entertain – and both Kimmel and Colbert stopped being funny a LONG time ago.
“Imagine if Jimmy Fallon swore. Started talking sh*t about Lorne Michaels. Then I’d be interested.”
That IS the Gutfeld! show format. Greg and his guests talk sh*t about anybody and everybody – even each other! Not Lorne Michaels, but about Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, “The View”, Chris Christie, Senators, celebrities, products, shows, and even Donald Trump! There’s an occasional profanity and sometimes it’s “beeped* and sometimes it’s not. It’s a show Bob Lefsetz should enjoy above all others and be praising as the one show that is doing everything right, by your own descriptions above.
But you never will – because the Gutfeld! show leans conservative and you cannot be objective enough to recognize and acknowledge that the most popular late night TV host in America is Greg Gutfeld!

“We’re looking for the new and different, the edge, that which we want to tell everybody about.
If you want a guarantee, go work for the man.
And if you’re not new and different, you can work for 20,000 hours and still no one will care. It’s that creative spark we’re looking for. That je nais se quois. That’s nearly impossible to find and create.
But that’s what we’re hunting for.”
And it’s already here – but you cannot see what is right in front of your face. You are so blinded by your Left Coast ideology and progressive Democrat Party playbook propaganda, that you praise and promote a guy who only has 25% of the Gutfeld! nightly audience.
Time to wake up, open your eyes, and face the future, Mr. Lefsetz. You’re on the wrong side of history – again!
